WE LOVE A LITTLE GOOD TROUBLE:
– March 2023
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
Officially, we first opened our big red door to guests in 2021 - to an exclusive booking for Natalie Portman, no less - and promptly closed in June due to Covid lockdowns - and this not-so-fun-hokey-pokey dance continued for some time. Bush fires, Covid and floods, our town had been through a lot.
So almost two years later, it was time to celebrate. A celebration in hind-site, if you will. A moment to come together after the fires, after Covid, after the floods and just have a good time for good times’ sake. And let’s just say - it was a night to remember.
We brought together our A-Team of Good-Time-Artists with an agenda to reignite the dreams and imaginations of our community, with an evening which transcended expectations and left an indelible mark in the story of The Sunseeker - and, dare we say, the town itself.
Good Food doesn’t come together without Good Trouble. From feeding your soil, to feeding your family. Food is about good graft, good people and going to the trouble. So Long Prawn put on a spread that was heavily bent on the incredible local produce with a lean towards our theme of Good Trouble. Bold selections paraded the wonky, imperfect and beautiful children of food. Tasty as anythng and as wild as the rest of us - wobbly breads, knobbly carrots and mounded seafood market to boot. From crab rolls, to troublesome dip, to crisp to cooked and raw crudités.
As an ode to oceanic location and the vast histories and stories that came before us, the moving image installation integrated a family of 3D animated plesiosaurs and fish into the centre of the celebration - our original kidney shaped pool from the 80s. The prehistoric reptiles were visible after dark as they swam through the pool. The creativity and generosity of Craig Walsh is simply unsurpassed.
Immortal Soil created nature based installations that were simply out of the earth and into the fire. Out of this world.
And our dear friend Edd Fisher – who played at Jess and Dave’s wedding almost 10 year’s prior, to the day – graced us as he does, with his rhythmic and melodic nuances with roots of jazz, funk, soul and disco with a twist of afro beats.
